Student Safety – Lakeside Union School District

Lakeside Union School District’s Board of Trustees recognizes that students and staff have the right to a safe and secure campus where they are free from harm. The Board is fully committed to maximizing school safety and to creating a positive learning environment that includes strategies for violence prevention and high expectations for student conduct, responsible behavior, and respect for others.

Ensuring a safe learning environment is the primary responsibility of the superintendent and each school principal. We ensure safety together with our staff, parents and community. We all need to work together to keep our students safe at school. Nothing is more important than the physical and emotional health of the young people who come to us each day, and the safety and emotional well being of the staff in whose care they are entrusted.

If you are experiencing or witnessed bullying or harassment at school, please contact school site administration. All allegations of harassment and bullying will be investigated in accordance with the law and procedures in District board policy.

School Safety Meetings

The Lakeside Union School District holds bi-monthly safety meetings that include leadership members representing local public safety agencies, LUSD school and district administrators to discuss safety topics.

School Site Council and School Site Safety Teams

Each LUSD school site has a School Site Council (SSC) committee. Several schools have a School Safety team that advises the SSC on safety matters. The School Principal maintains the school’s Comprehensive School Safety Plan, and Crisis Response Plan, ensures consistent review of Disaster Response Plan, and implementation of drills.

Impact Canine Solutions

To help our middle school campuses remain a safe space for students, LUSD partners with Impact Canine Solutions for their state of the art canine detection services.

Sandy Hook Promise Initiative

LUSD partners with Sandy Hook Promise for their prevention programs. Their Know the Signs programs teach students and educators to recognize the warning signs of potential violence and get help. The Say Something program empowers students to recognize and report warning signs of potential harm. These proven programs build a positive school climate where everyone looks out for one another.

P3 Anonymous Reporting System

Commonly known as P3 Tips or P3 Campus, P3 Anonymous Reporting System is a secure digital platform used by law enforcement, schools, and Crime Stoppers to let people submit safe, untraced tips. LUSD middle school students may make reports anonymously using their district-issued devices.

Students Speak Out Program

LUSD partners with the Students Speak Out Program which provides rewards to persons reporting crimes or incidents through the P3 Anonymous Reporting System. These tips are investigated by local law enforcement and the San Diego County Crimestoppers program.

Crime Stoppers

LUSD is partnered with the San Diego County Crime Stoppers, a non profit organization with the mission of making San Diego County safer through the Students Speaking Out Program. Students Speaking Out was created with the goal of helping to spend more time preparing young people for leadership in the future. The program was designed to create opportunities for parents, educators, and students to have a dialogue about the choices they and their peers make. While no one wants dangerous activities or crime to be a topic in schools, unfortunately it is an issue that must be dealt with in our schools today. Students Speaking Out is a proactive approach to creating a safer school environment. Students Speaking Out can be utilized within the curriculum to teach character development. The program promotes school spirit, pride, and a positive campus image to students. In addition, this is a way students can safely report school crimes anonymously without fear of retaliation. This program encourages the development of responsibility. This San Diego County organization accepts anonymous tips at (888) 580-8477 about past or potential crimes at school or anywhere in the community.

LUSD follows a Human Trafficking Reporting Protocol for Schools developed by the San Diego County Office of Education. Schools, school employees, parents, and caregivers play an important role in helping to prevent human trafficking of children and youth. There are several ways educators and families can raise awareness and prevent human trafficking and also know the signs in order to report human trafficking and save lives.
