RIA is a Purple Star School
Riverview International Academy’s two campuses (Winter Gardens and Riverview) have been recognized with the prestigious Purple Star School designation in 2026.
This distinguished recognition comes from the California Purple Star School Designation Program (Purple Star Program), which aims to alleviate the challenges faced by military-connected students and their families. By identifying schools that meet specific criteria and offering crucial transition support, the Purple Star Program highlights schools dedicated and well-equipped to address the unique needs of military-connected students.

The Purple Star Program centralizes knowledge, builds a stakeholder network, and assists schools in developing and communicating cultural competency in supporting military-connected families. Riverview International Academy’s two campuses have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to these principles, earning the Purple Star School designation for its exceptional services and programs tailored to military families’ needs. Some of RIA’s programs for military families include:
- Welcoming and acclimating a new military-connected student and their family to our school
- Providing exceptional educational support for military-connected students, including its state-identified target populations
- Providing social-emotional support for military-connected students via counseling services and referrals to outside agencies
- Providing professional development and training to staff to support the unique needs of its military-connected families
This designation reflects our district and school’s ongoing commitment to an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students. For more information regarding our district’s support for Military-Connected Families, please click the button below:
Month of the Military Child
Did you know that the month of April is the Month of the Military Child? It is a time to recognize and celebrate the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of military-connected children.
Communities across the country will observe Purple Up Day in April wearing purple to show support for military youth on that day!
The color purple represents the unity of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, blending the colors of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.
As we head toward April, our school’s two campuses will be sharing and promoting school-specific activities and efforts to honor and uplift military children across our district.
We encourage students, staff, and families to wear purple, participate in school activities, and join us in recognizing the incredible military children in our community.
