California English Language Development TestStudents in kindergarten through grade twelve whose home language is not English are required by law to take an English skills test. In California, the test is called the CELDT.This test helps schools identify students who need to improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Schools also give the test each year to students who are still learning English. The CELDT is usually administered during the Fall of each school year. Our goal is to help our English Language Learners to show one-year's progress in one year. This means, for example, that if a student was at a Beginning proficiency level at the start of the 2010-2011 school year, we would like to see them advance to Early Intermediate in 2011-2012.
