Education Code Requirements:
All minors six (6) to sixteen (16) years of age must attend compulsory full-time school on a daily basis for the full length of a school day.
Attendance Tips – It is important for your child’s education to attend school, arrive on time and be ready to learn each day. As parents you can help to get your child off to a good start by making sure he/she get plenty of rest, get up in time to complete their morning routine, eat a good breakfast and get to school on time. School starts at 8:45 a.m., (Kinder) 8:35 a.m., (1st Grade). Enroll in our before/after school ESS (Extended Student Services) program.
Student Absences – If your child will be absent from school for any reason, please call, fax or e-mail the attendance office at the above address by 10:00 a.m. to report the absence. If your child will only miss one (1) day of school, you may send a note to the teacher upon their return. If your student has consecutive absences, you must call the attendance office each day. You may request a homework packet from your child’s teacher when you report the absence and pick it up in the front office after school. Students with unreported absences will receive a Blue Absence Report by Parent on Wednesdays in their folders. Please complete this form and return ASAP to your child’s teacher.
The state of California allows a student to be excused for the following reasons: student illness or quarantine, student medical appointment (doctor/dental) or to attend the funeral of an immediate family member (parent/sibling/grandparent). State law varies for funerals depending on in state or out of state, please contact us if this situation arises.
All absences or tardies are unexcused unless they meet the criteria as listed above. This includes family trips that do not meet our Independent Study guidelines.
Any student with 3 or more unexcused absences and/or 3 unexcused tardies of more than 30 minutes in a school year will be declared truant. Families will be notified in writing if this happens and may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
Going on a trip? – Most families plan their vacations around our scheduled school holidays. We understand that family emergencies happen or a pre-planned vacation will happen during regular school sessions. If your child will miss 5 or more school days, please ask your child’s teacher and/or the office about an Independent Study contract. This will allow your child to receive attendance credit and academic credit during their absences. Teachers need at least a week’s advance notice to prepare the contract and all the required work, so please plan ahead!
