• The Lakeside Union School District Board of Trustees has a combined 50 plus years of service to the students and community of Lakeside. 

    The board is charged with the responsibility for the general control and direction of education in the District based on state and federal constitutions and laws, and State Board of Education rules and regulations.

Mr. Butz is married and has three children that have attended schools in the Lakeside Union School District. He recently retired from Cal Fire as a Firefighter where he worked for 32 years.  He has worked in various positions where he was responsible for budgets, staff, training, facilities and equipment. He also has experience working with other federal, state, county and local agencies and boards in the emergency services.  Mr. Butz has been an active PTSA member and served on the school site council. He was an involved parent throughout his children’s school years and assisted in many school projects and field trips, such as the 8th grade DC trip. He served as President for El Capitan High School baseball boosters and held positions for Lakeside American Little League and Lakeside Pony League Boards.

Mrs. Holly Ferrante, a Lakeside resident for much of the last 45 years, is married and has two adult sons that attended schools in Lakeside Union School District.  She is a graduate of El Capitan High School and San Diego State University with a BA in Business and is now a local business owner. Her commitment to the education of Lakeside youth began more than 20 years ago when she started serving on PTA boards and other committees that support education in the community.  In addition to serving as the PTA Council President for Lakeside Union School District she has also supported the district serving on the Bond Oversight Committee.  Moreover, she has volunteered with Lakeside National Little League and Lakeside AYSO and is currently a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with Voices for Children.  Her philosophy regarding education starts and ends with students at the center and she believes in the right to a quality free appropriate public education.  Mrs. Ferrante supports Arts, Sciences and Digital Literacy as an integral part of academic achievement in the 21st Century and wants to ensure that the students of Lakeside receive a first class education.

As a member of the Barona Band of Mission Indians, a lifelong Lakeside resident and a mother of three children, Bonnie LaChappa strives to be an active member of the Lakeside community. As a current Barona Tribal Councilmember and member of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce Board, Mrs. LaChappa is a passionate advocate for education and has been actively involved in Lakeside schools for the past two decades. She served as a parent volunteer at Lindo Park Elementary, Tierra Del Sol and El Capitan High School. She has served on the PTA at all three schools in various roles including Vice President and Parent Volunteer Committee Chair. She has also served on the Lemon Crest Elementary School Site Committee. While serving as a Barona Tribal Council member, Mrs. LaChappa was actively involved in the Tribe's community relations program and helped direct major charitable contributions of financial support and services to dozens of local causes benefiting all San Diegans. Among these efforts, she played an active part in the development and execution of the Barona Band of Mission Indians' Education Grant Program, which awarded a total of $90,000 in grant money to 18 schools across the state to promote academic improvement in its first year. Mrs. LaChappa is committed to helping ensure that all Lakeside students receive a superior education and believes in the partnership between parents, students and most importantly their District's governing body to realize this goal.

Dr. Rhonda Taylor

Dr. Rhonda Taylor is an elementary school principal in Poway California and has been in education in various positions for over 25 years. She spent 21 of those years in the Lakeside Union School District.  She is passionate about providing students access to high-quality education and maintaining positive outcomes for the employees of LUSD. Dr. Taylor began her career with the Lakeside Union School District as a student teacher at Lakeview Elementary School. After teaching 12 years at Lakeside Farms Elementary, she became vice-principal at Lakeside Middle School She then became the principal of Lakeview Elementary School. During her time at Lakeview, Dr. Taylor led her talented staff to begin a comprehensive music education program, a 50% bilingual program, and watched Lakeview’s students soar to success! In addition, Dr. Taylor is enthusiastic about educational technology and helped to implement the technology program in the Lakeside Union School District. She eventually moved to the LUSD District Office where she helped to transition the LUSD teaching staff to implement the new state standards, and led two curriculum pilots, adopting the curriculum now used in Math and Language Arts. Ultimately Dr. Taylor moved to the Poway Unified School District to see how a larger district operates. Rhonda Taylor is proud to be associated with a school district that provides so many unique opportunities for students to be engaged and successful!  She is a married mother of three children and a member of the Lakeside Historical Society as well as The Woman’s Club of Lakeside.

As a life-long Lakeside resident and product of Lakeside schools, Andrew Hayes is committed to partnering with parents, teachers, and district staff to serve the students of Lakeside and continue providing the well-rounded educational opportunities that he had as a student in Lakeside. Hayes believes that every child deserves an education that puts them on the path to achieving their dreams whether they will attend a four year university, study a trade or enter the workforce. He believes in a rich and challenging local curriculum, a safe environment for our students to achieve and opportunities for our students to explore careers, the arts and the sciences. Hayes attended Tierra del Sol middle school and graduated from El Capitan High School. He then attended the University of San Diego where he earned two bachelor's degrees one in business administration and the other in political science. In 2014, he joined the legislative office of California State Senator Joel Anderson and in December of 2018, Hayes continued his legislative work by joining the office of California State Senator Brian Jones where he currently serves as a liaison between the Senator and over 900,000 constituents in eastern and northern San Diego. His experience with the state legislature provides Hayes with a deep understanding of the state’s impact on our local school funding and the need for local control where Lakeside residents have more say in our students' education. Hayes is a proud member of the Santee-Lakeside Rotary Club, Lakeside Kiwanis, and the Lakeside Historical Society.
