I am very honored to serve the students in the Lakeside Union School District's HomeFlex School. I am humbled to start this exciting journey with your family and our incredibly dynamic home school teacher Mrs. Monica Farren.

I have been an educator for 22 years and I feel privileged to support the work of students, teachers, and parents in every school setting, including a high caliber home school, working alongside parents as partners. I am truly exited that at "HomeFlex," we are able to offer you a personalized learning program for students and families who want more flexibility, customization, and self-directed education with the guidance of a credentialed teacher and the support of an innovative award winning school district.

I became an educator immediately after earning a bachelor's degree at UCLA and a master's degree at Chapman University but it was my most recent position at Steele Canyon High that allowed me build an independent learning system that serves the changing needs of our home school community.

Personally, I have 2 children who have life threatening allergies and always wondered what options I would have if the traditional school setting presented too many health challenges. As an educator and parent, I am thrilled to lead and develop HomeFlex, placing the needs of our community and educational excellence a priority with every decision.

When I am not working on our home school, you can find me at Eucalyptus Hills or Winter Gardens School so please reach out to me with any questions.

I am so excited to be a teacher for grades 5th-8th in the HomeFlex school! Joining the Lakeside community last year feels like it was meant to be as my first teaching assignment was a long term substitute position in a first grade class at Riverview elementary. Since then, I have been teaching middle school for thirteen years.

As a Southern California native, I completed all of my education locally.  I attended Patrick Henry High School, and then received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University. I then earned a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a Single Subject Authorization in English and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design from the University of San Diego.

For me, the best part of being a teacher is getting to know my students. I am continually inspired by their creative minds and huge hearts. I also enjoy collaborating to create engaging curriculum rooted in real life experiences and designed to meet my student’s many diverse areas of interest and need.

In addition to teaching, I have experience working as an instructional coach and a curriculum coordinator. I have developed student programs, planned school events, and led workshops for parents and the community. As a lifelong learner, I am always excited for new opportunities to be innovative and to challenge myself.

When I am not teaching, you might find me reading a book, on a run, in the pool, or at the beach, but you will always find me trying to keep up with my three children. I look forward to meeting you and working alongside your family to provide personalized goal-setting and learning.

I am thrilled to be a part of Lakeside Union’s HomeFlex school! I feel extremely lucky to be working alongside Mrs. Farren, Mrs. Sloan, and Ms. Bertand as the HomeFlex teacher for grades 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I am a San Diego State University alum and proud Aztec through and through! I received both my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Literacy and Elementary Education, as well as a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from SDSU. Although this is my first homeschool teaching experience, I have worked throughout San Diego in various grades, ranging from K-8th. Part of what calls me to teaching is my passion for diversity and inclusion. I love to teach from a multicultural lens that allows for my students to become true global citizens. My goal as an educator is to make all of my students feel validated and represented.

Hello! I’m Mrs. Sloan, the TK & Kindergarten teacher for the HomeFlex School. I am a 30-year resident of Lakeside; and a parent of two children, aged ten and three. I earned my multiple subject teaching credential and my Master of Education degree in inspired teaching and learning with ELL education emphasis, at National University. I completed my student teaching at Lakeside Farms with two amazing master teachers, Mrs. Cortes & Mrs. Root. My student teaching experience was an invaluable opportunity to learn from the best, while developing my own teaching style, and building positive relationships with the staff, students, and their families. During the 2019-20 school year, I taught EAK at Lindo Park Elementary School. Every day, I focused on providing a safe, respectful learning environment for students to encourage them to develop personally and academically both in the classroom and throughout Distance Learning.

Prior to teaching, I graduated from SDSU in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation administration with an emphasis in management. For the past 20 years, I have been serving youth in the East County community: nine years as the El Cajon Boys & Girls Club Complex Director, two years as a CVUSD Extended Day Program Supervisor, five years as a City of Santee Recreation Leader, and six years as a County of San Diego Recreation Leader. I have loved my years of experience mentoring youth and creating quality enrichment programs for all ages, ranging from kindergarteners to middle and high schoolers. For more than half of my life, I have pursued my passion of serving at-risk youth in my community during the critical hours after-school. In my second career as a teacher, I have the opportunity to continue making a positive impact in my community, to be a part of the larger learning community in the Lakeside Union School District, and to pursue my love for education and teaching the youth of today. I am honored to be part of the HomeFlex team and working with all the wonderful families in the program!

I am honored to join the incredible team of teachers at Lakeside Union’s HomeFlex school! I am very excited to be teaching 1st grade! Prior to beginning my teaching career in 2017, I was an Executive Sales Manager in real estate for 16 years. I always knew I wanted to work with and for kids, and a few years ago I made the decision to go back to school and get my teaching credential. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from San Diego State University. My teaching experience includes teaching art, theater, and music to Kindergarten - 6th grade students.

My passion for teaching comes from helping students discover their individual strengths and interests and finding ways to use those strengths to help guide their learning. Every child’s learning style and needs are unique; uncovering ways to best meet the needs of each of my students is one of my greatest joys in teaching.

I am looking forward to working alongside the HomeFlex families to provide meaningful and customized learning experiences for their students.
