I am very honored to serve the students in the Lakeside Union School District's Home School Flex Program. I am humbled to start this exciting journey with your family and our incredibly dynamic home school teacher Mrs. Monica Farren.

I have been an educator for 22 years and I feel privileged to support the work of students, teachers, and parents in every school setting, including a high caliber home school program, working alongside parents as partners. I am truly exited that at "Home Flex," we are able to offer you a personalized learning program for students and families who want more flexibility, customization, and self-directed education with the guidance of a credentialed teacher and the support of an innovative award winning school district.

I became an educator immediately after earning a bachelor's degree at UCLA and a master's degree at Chapman University but it was my most recent position at Steele Canyon High that allowed me build an independent learning program that serves the changing needs of our home school community.

Personally, I have 2 children who have life threatening allergies and always wondered what options I would have if the traditional school setting presented too many health challenges. As an educator and parent, I am thrilled to lead and develop Home Flex, placing the needs of our community and educational excellence a priority with every decision.

When I am not working on our home school program, you can find me at Eucalyptus Hills or Winter Gardens School so please reach out to me with any questions.

Monica Farren - Home Flex Teacher

I am so excited to be the Lakeside Union School District’s Home School Teacher! Joining the Lakeside community this year feels like it was meant to be as my first teaching assignment was a long term substitute position in a first grade class at Riverview elementary. Since then, I have been teaching middle school for twelve years.

As a Southern California native, I completed all of my education locally.  I attended Patrick Henry High School, and then received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University. I then earned a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a Single Subject Authorization in English and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design from the University of San Diego.

For me, the best part of being a teacher is getting to know my students. I am continually inspired by their creative minds and huge hearts. I also enjoy collaborating to create engaging curriculum rooted in real life experiences and designed to meet my student’s many diverse areas of interest and need.

In addition to teaching, I have experience working as an instructional coach and a curriculum coordinator. I have developed student programs, planned school events, and led workshops for parents and the community. As a lifelong learner, I am always excited for new opportunities to be innovative and to challenge myself.

When I am not teaching, you might find me reading a book, on a run, in the pool, or at the beach, but you will always find me trying to keep up with my three children. I look forward to meeting you and working alongside your family to provide personalized goal-setting and learning.
