Hello! My name is Suzy Bass and I am so happy to come back as a part of the wonderful, energetic, and positive staff here at Lindo Park. I taught 5th grade last year and really enjoyed my time with my students.  I am so excited to be looping with this new group of students and continuing their education as their 5th grade teacher next year.

I have a son, Garrett, who is seventeen years old and a senior at El Capitan High School. Garrett is the light of my life and I feel so fortunate and lucky to be his mother. We enjoy hiking, kayaking, riding our bicycles, and spending time at the beach, mountains, desert, and river.

Have a terrific year everyone!

Hello!  My name is Kelly Blum and I teach 1st grade here at Lindo Park.  I have experience teaching kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade and love introducing kids to the excitement of learning.  My favorite thing about being a teacher is helping kids learn how to read!  I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education at the University of Oregon (GO DUCKS!) and then received my teaching credential at San Diego State University. In my spare time, I love to travel, read, cook, scrapbook, and watch Oregon Duck's football.

I grew up here in San Diego and come from a long line of teachers in my family.  My grandmother, father, and mother are all teachers and I feel very fortunate to have a profession that I love! I look forward to coming to school each day to work with your wonderful children.  It's going to be a great year!

Hello! My name is Amanda Elson and I am thrilled to be teaching another year here at Lindo Park. The first grade team is really solid and I am pleased to be a part of it. I have been teaching since 2007 in the Lakeside Union School District and I am truly honored to be here.

I attended San Diego State University where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and my Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in K-12 Language Arts Education. I fully understand the importance of a good education and hope to instill a love of learning in the lives I teach.

The Lakeside Union School District is very dear to me because it is the district that I attended growing up. The people I have come in contact with are what really make this district so warm, welcoming, and truly amazing. I have found Lindo Park to be a perfect fit for me.

I have been happily married since 2004 to my wonderful husband Eric. We have two amazing and loving boys who are always on the go! When I am not at school I enjoy spending my spare time reading, being creative, snuggling with my cat Smudge, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.

Hello, my name is Cindy Hilliker. I previously taught at Lakeside Middle School and am one of three Special Day Class Teachers here at Tierra del Sol Middle School. I began teaching in the Lakeside Union School District in January 2008. Prior to working at LSUSD, I taught for the San Diego Unified School District in an upper elementary Integrated Life Skills classroom. My background extends beyond the classroom as I have also worked as a behavioral tutor providing intensive intervention services to children with autism both in-home and in inclusive classroom settings.

My educational background includes an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Masters of Arts. I currently hold teaching credentials for Multiple Subject General Education as well as an Education Specialist Credential with authorizations to teach students with mild/moderate disabilities, moderate/severe disabilities, and students needing support with English as a second language.

Community and family are near and dear to my heart. I have enjoyed my time here in Lakeside. I live, and work, in a community that supports and takes care of one another. When not in the classroom, you may find me at our family egg ranch--Hilliker's Ranch Fresh Eggs. I've seen many past, present, and future students there while at the ranch. I also have had the pleasure to meet up with former students involved in the local 4-H or FFA clubs at the high school level. Staying connected and supported is one of the many benefits afforded to me, because I live in the community. Lakeside will always be home.

If you ever have any questions or want to speak about your child's educational progress, please feel free to contact me. Parent information is sent out multiple ways--School website, School Email Blasts, School phone calls, Remind.com/mobile app, and www.lsusd.haikulearning.com. You will need some information from me for Remind and Haiku, so look for a parent letter at the start of the school year or see me at Back to School Night.

Let's have a wonderful year!!

I have been a teacher going on 19 years.  I joined the wonderful family of Lakeside teachers, here at Lindo Park, nine years ago. I love coming to this wonderful job each day because it is challenging and highly rewarding. Watching the excitement in children when they learn something new and teaching children how to succeed in their lives through the use of self-control, taking responsibility and exhibiting positive behavior (self-efficacy and empowerment), is an awesome feeling.

I was born in the garden state of New Jersey but have lived in California since I was two years old, so I call myself a California boy. We moved around a lot when I was young. I've lived in Los Angeles, Orange County (I graduated from Edison High School in Huntington Beach), San Jose and finally San Diego. I moved to San Diego when I was twenty years old and have been here ever since. I love San Diego!

I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.  I love weekend walks on the beach or bay (with a Starbucks in my hand), snorkeling, boogie boarding, kayaking and catching some rays during the summer (while enjoying a good book).  I also enjoy playing golf, hiking, riding my bike, working out at the gym, and playing my guitar.

I love teaching and what it brings to my life. I feel very fortunate to be working with the children here at Lindo Park, along with the highly awesome and supportive staff.

Sandy has taught in the Lakeside Union School District for 10 years. She taught fourth grade at Lakeview and second grade at Lindo Park, and is so lucky she found such a wonderful district to call her “teaching home." This is her second year working as a Digital Learning Coach in the district. She loves working with both students and teachers to transform learning in the classroom to empower students to become 21st century learners. It is the most rewarding thing when teachers and students see the possibilities for expanding learning in the classroom through technology. Sandy graduated from San Diego State with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. She got her teaching credential at SDSU, as well as her Masters Degree in Education and her Reading Specialist Credential. Sandy enjoys presenting at conferences, including SDCUE Tech Fair, CUE Annual Conference, and Fall CUE. During her free time, you can find Sandy spending time with her family all around San Diego- the zoo, Sea World, and the beach!

Hello!  My name is Suzie Smith.  I currently teach 2nd Grade in Room D-8.  I am fortunate to have the chance to encourage new experiences in the lives of students here at Lindo Park.  I am truly blessed to be working with such a wonderful staff.  This year I am looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year.  It is my pleasure to come to work everyday and see their enthusiastic faces ready to face the new challenges ahead.

Teaching is my second career and what a wonderfully rewarding career choice it has been.  I have worked for the Lakeside Union School District since 1996 in various primary grades K-2.  I began my career at Riverview and quickly moved on to Lemon Crest, where I have spent the majority of my career.  I left for one year in 2009-10 to go to Winter Gardens as the Intern Principal. I have now moved on to Lindo Park where I look forward to learning new and exciting things with my students.
I grew up in Lakeside (since the age of 3) and attended Riverview, Lakeside Middle School, and El Capitan.  I continued my education at Grossmont College and transferred to National University.  I completed my BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and my Masters of Education in Instructional Leadership at National University.  I earned my Administrative Services Credential at San Diego State University.  I currently hold a Multiple Subject Credential with a CLAD(Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development) Certificate, and an Administrative Services Credential with an Early Childhood Education Director Certificate.
When not teaching I enjoy reading, bargain shopping, reading, walking and traveling with my friends, and spoiling my pets.

It's a great pleasure to be teaching 5th grade at Lindo Park this year. I love this school and am exceptionally proud to have been a part of it for the last ten years and I greatly enjoy working in this wonderful community. Previously, I taught at Riverview Elementary here in Lakeside and before that in Santee.

I was born and raised here in San Diego’s East County. I’ve also spent time living in the Bay Area and Seattle, WA. I received my B.A. degree from UC Berkeley and completed my teaching credential at San Diego State University.

My wife is a high school math teacher in Chula Vista and we have one daughter who is in 12th grade.

When I'm not teaching, I love to travel, cook, run and read (not all at the same time, although that would be an impressive feat). As a personal challenge, I've run the Rock & Roll Marathon four years straight and still somehow taught school the next morning. My family and I love traveling as well. Last summer we had a marvelous vacation in the United Kingdom and drove all through it. Then we took the train across to Paris. It was so much fun! This winter we're going back to experience Christmas time in London.

I love teaching, and I'm thrilled to be starting a new chapter teaching 4th and 5th grades. In moving to intermediate grades from primary this year, I'm particularly excited to be the final elementary school teacher for a number of students I taught way back in kindergarten. I'm already getting teary-eyed thinking about promotion day in June. I particularly enjoy teaching at Lindo Park. The kids here are awesome, the community is very supportive and we have a great staff that strives to help and support one another and our student population. I'm looking forward to another fantastic and exciting year.

Welcome! My name is Kerry Strong and I teach third grade. I have been teaching at Lindo Park School since 2006. I have worked with many grades and I am excited to be back with 3rd grade. I received my BA and teaching credential from San Diego State University. I also have a strong background in Montessori education.

I have lived in San Diego all my life, but I love to travel! I enjoy going to the movies, the zoo, the beach, and to the theater. I enjoy musical theater and all its elements such as singing, dancing, and acting. I was involved in a musical theater company in San Diego for many years. I've done everything from working on the lighting and backstage crew, to performing, directing, and teaching drama and dance. I feel that the Arts are SO important to bring to children. I regularly incorporate all aspects of the Arts into my teaching.

When your children attend Lindo Park your whole family becomes a part of ours here at school. I feel so lucky that I get to work with the students, parents, and staff at Lindo Park! I hope that you will love our school as much as I do! Please feel free to contact me anytime by e-mail or phone. Check back on our website frequently as I will be posting information throughout the school year!

Hello! My name is Sharon Sullinger and this is my eleventh year at Lindo Park Elementary.  This year I am excited to once again teach the third grade!  In past years I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and grades five through eight elsewhere.  In addition, I have taught several graduate courses in Special Education.

I attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona where I received my BA in Humanities and Art History. Coming from a family of teachers I argued I would never become a teacher; however working my way through college in school systems I found a calling I truly loved and could not deny. I went back to NAU and completed my M.Ed. in Elementary Education, making me a fifth generation teacher.

When I am not at school I love spending time with my family.  In May of 2015 my husband and I had our first child, a son named Benedict!  Being a mom is one of the most amazing experiences of my life.   My family and I love the Southwest, especially New Mexico and northern Arizona - both places we lived for several years. When I am not at school, you will usually find me playing with my wonderful dog, Franklin.  I also love to read, go camping, travel, and spend time with my very close family.

I love teaching at Lindo Park and getting to know all of my students and their families. I look forward to exploring this 2017-2018 school year with you!
