    Meet Your School Counselor

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Erika Garcia and I just joined Lindo Park Elementary School as your new School Counselor.

I received a Bachelor’s Degree from San Diego State University in Psychology and Minor in Spanish. During my undergraduate years I started my career in education by supporting students and families who were part of the SDSU Children’s center. It was during this time that I realized how much I enjoyed making a difference in the life of children; building partnerships with parents and educators that I decided to become a school counselor.

I went on to earn my Master’s degree from San Diego State University in School Counseling. During graduate school I worked in several school districts in K-12 and as part of the Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which prepares students for college readiness and success in today’s global society. In December 2014, I was fortunate to become part of the Lakeside Union School District as the Connection Coordinator. My role was to design and implement Skill Building Groups focused on 21st Century Skills in five elementary schools. A couple months later I was given the opportunity to be part of one of the finest schools in Lakeside, Lindo Park Elementary School.

As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility will be to promote academic, personal/social and career development for all students.  My vision is to create a data driven comprehensive school counseling program that is focused on the American School Counseling Association model. A model that analyzes and disaggregates achievement and achievement related data to identify and close the achievement gap. Furthermore, I will be working with students individually and in small groups to help them overcome issues impeding their academic success and identify problems, causes, alternatives and possible consequences so they can make decisions and take appropriate action. In addition, I will develop and implement classroom presentations, meeting and consulting with administrators, teachers and parents. Also, I will be consulting with community resources to benefit and meet the needs of all students and families.

Any student can request to meet with me or they can be referred by an administrator, teacher or parent/guardian. I am here to support students achieve their personal and academic goals and work with parents and teachers to support our students. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like me to meet with your student. I can be reached by phone at (619) 390-2656 ext. 6534 or email at egarcia@lsusd.net.
