Lakeview is home to a very unique art program, designed by Beth
Hutchins and funded by PTA. The program runs from October through April,
right up until testing begins in May.
The purpose of the Art Docent Program is to better address the
Visual Arts standards in the classroom by exposing the children to art
history, great art and artists, and providing the experience of creative
art activities in the classroom. This is especially
important now as The Arts are identified as a required Core Academic
Subject under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The Art Docent
Program is implemented in the classrooms primarily via volunteers,
including parents, grandparents, retired teachers, college
students and seniors from the community. Teachers may also deliver the
program themselves with a limited availability of volunteers.
The Art Docent Program is designed to be very user-friendly, with
pre-designed art lessons and creative art activities ready to implement.
There is no pre-requisite of art knowledge or art background necessary.
Anyone can teach these lessons and enjoy working
with Lakeview’s children.
Volunteers are needed for every classroom each year.
